What are the ACC Goals?
To spay/neuter and medically clear all the homeless animals on the island
To educate the public on the importance of spaying and neutering their pets
To prevent pet over-population, alleviating the suffering of unowned animals
To care for and find good loving homes for abandoned animals
To provide the funds for medical attention to abandoned animals in need
To supply food and water to unowned animals in the bush
When was the ACC started?
The ACC began sometime in the 1970's by a small group of concerned citizens working primarily out of their homes. The "shack" went up in 1985 as a visiting place for veterinarians from St. Thomas. The new facility, opened in March 2003, stands in the same place as the old "shack" (across from the library in Cruz Bay). We now have an adoption center, a humane trap rental program, available space to house animals awaiting good homes, a food supply program for "bush" cats, a trap/neuter(spay)/return program, a spay day for "bush" cats (every Wednesday) at participating veterinarian offices and some pet supplies available for sale.
Is the ACC a non-profit organization?
Yes, the ACC is a 501(c)(3) organization that legally holds a non-profit status. We receive no government assistance and ALL our funding comes from private contributions.
